How we classify & verify

ThriftyPetVet labels every U.S. veterinary clinic by how flexibly it lets pet owners pay. Here's exactly how we do it, and where our data comes from.

The tiers

• Payment-Flexible · Verified — the clinic has confirmed (by claiming its listing or responding to us) that it offers structured payment plans, plus at least two financing options.
• Financing Accepted — the clinic's own website indicates it accepts financing such as CareCredit or Scratchpay, or advertises wellness plans.
• Standard — no financing options were found on the clinic's website. This is not a judgment of quality, and many Standard clinics do offer options by phone. Clinics can claim their listing to update it.

Where the data comes from

Clinic names, addresses, phone numbers, websites, hours, and ratings come from public business listings. Financing and service signals are detected from each clinic's own website and cross-checked against public financing-network directories. Credentials (AAHA, Fear Free, Cat Friendly) are verified against the issuing organizations' registries before we display a badge.

Freshness

Every clinic page shows a “Last verified” date. We re-check listings monthly and whenever a clinic claims or updates its profile. Found something out of date? Every listing has a way to flag it.

Our sources on the cost problem

Affordability statistics cited across the site come from the PetSmart Charities–Gallup State of Pet Care studies (2025 consumer and 2026 veterinarian waves) and published veterinary industry data. We link to primary sources wherever we cite a figure.
